My name is Ruqayat Martins and I graduated from White Bear Lake Area High School. I was an editor for the literary magazine at my school. Also, I was a leader in Black Excellence Club (BEC) from 2017-2019. BEC is a club me and my friends started at school in 2017. I have won awards from my local art center, White Bear Center for The Arts, for my poetry and persuasive writing. The writing competition at the center is called WriteNow and I have been winning 1st and 2nd place from 10th grade to 12th grade. I was also chosen to be a speaker at my graduation ceremony. Outside of school, I am involved in my mosque. I am the Public Relations Officer for Muslim Youth Awareness, a youth program we started in 2016. I will be attending Hamline University and plan to major in English. I want to eventually become an English teacher or professor while still pursuing my writing. I plan to also be an author and publish many books.
