He was a Chartered Engineer and a member of Institution of Production Engineers (now Institution of Manufacturing Engineers), United Kingdom and a member of Society of Manufacturing Engineers in the United States. He taught in the department of mechanical engineering of Federal Polytechnic, Idah for two years and in the same department of the University of Lagos for more eight years before relocating to the United States.
He subsequently changed from engineering by obtaining M.Sc. in Rehabilitation Counselling, Ph.D. in Psychology and Postgraduate Certificates in Trauma Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). Also taught for two years at his alma mata, the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
